McMillian Gibson Leaberry

Nancy McMillian Gibson Leaberry 85,
widow of Ernest F. Leaberry III, passed away quietly in her sleep at
Woodlands Residential Heath Care on December 17, 2009 after a prolonged
illness. Nancy was born on May 11, 1924 in Huntington, WV, the youngest
child of the late Edward George Gibson and Ada Marie Selb Gibson. She was
preceded in death by her brother, Edward Gibson, his wife, Betsy, a sister,
Sara Gibson Brindle, her husband Harry, another brother, Jack Gibson, his
wife Wilda, and a sister, Jean Gibson Cunningham and husband James. Nancy
graduated from Huntington High School and attended Marshall University. She
was engaged to the late Lt. Robert Femoyer, a Congressional Medal of Honor
Recipient, who was killed in action during WWII. She later met and married
her husband Ernest. Over the course of their 48 year marriage they had six
children. Nancy was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church for over 60
years. She was a member of Guyan Golf and County Club and the Women's Club
of Huntington where she took a major role in the production of the famed Gay
Caper Musicals. She served two terms as an elected member of the Huntington
Park Board, volunteered at the Huntington Museum of Art and was a member of
the Ivy and Cotillion Dance Clubs of Huntington. Nancy, along with her very
good friend, the late Betty Crickard are fondly remembered for the clever
and original skits they wrote and performed for audiences throughout the
community. Nancy is survived by her six children and their families, Dr.
Susan Leaberry Victor, her husband, Dr. David W. Victor of Morehead KY and
their children Dr. David Victor of New Orleans, LA, Elizabeth Victor of
Lexington, KY, and Luke Victor of Morehead, KY; Paige Leaberry Prino, her
husband Victor Prino II and their son, Joseph Prino of Huntington, WV; John
F. Leaberry Esq. and his wife Pamela Williams Leaberry of Ft. Lauderdale FL
and Lewisburg, WV; E. Braxton Leaberry, his wife Teresa Chapman Leaberry and
their daughters, Melissa, Katie and Maggie Leaberry all of Nashville TN;
Philip G. Leaberry also of Nashville TN, and Dr. Jeffrey L. Leaberry, wife,
Brooke Adams Leaberry and their daughter Addison Leaberry of Huntington, WV.
Also surviving are beloved sister-in-laws, Mary Leaberry and Helen Leaberry
Lester of Huntington, a brother-in-law, John C. Leaberry of St. Augustine,
FL, a special niece, Carolyn Brindle Hunter of Huntington, her very best and
life long friend, Joanne Stark Hibbert, of Atlanta Georgia, and numerous
other loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends. The many nurses
and healthcare providers at the Woodlands Healthcare Facility held a special
place in Nancy's heart and life. These wonderful individuals took great care
to ensure that she was comfortable, happy, loved, and well cared for. For
this the Leaberry family is eternally grateful.
Funeral services for Nancy will be conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, December 22,
2009 at St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Karen F. Humbert. Chapman's
Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will take place from 1:00
- 2:00 P.M. at the church on Tuesday, before the memorial service begins.
Internment of ashes will follow the service at the St. John's Church
Columbarium. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St
John's Episcopal Church or the Woodlands Healthcare Employee Fund.
