Ira Gene "Pete" LeGrand
(February 18, 1926 - December 22, 2009)



Ira Gene "Pete" LeGrand, 83, of Huntington, husband of Ella Mae Chapman LeGrand, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 pm Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Chapman's Mortuary with Pastor Jack K. Mayes officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodmere Abbey of Remembrance, with VFW Post 9738 conducting military graveside rites. He was born February 18, 1926, in Pike County, Ohio, a son of the late Ira and Florence Vanscoy LeGrand. A sister, Virginia Shepherd, and a half sister, Loretta Johnson also preceded him in death. He was a World War II, US Army veteran, a Bronze Star recipient, and was a member of the Army Special forces with 18 years of military service. He was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 22, and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. He was a former warehouse manager at Sears Roebuck and Company. Survivors in addition to his wife include: three step-daughters, Bonnie Childers and her husband Earl, Marsha Wagers and Linda Bowen all of Huntington; one step-son, Johnny Chapman also of Huntington; one half sister, Juanita Ross of Newport News, VA., four grandchildren, Jeremy and Jeffrey Childers, and Gary and Michael Pritt; four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kyler, Chad and Lauren Childers. Friends may call from 12:30 pm to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
