GILBERT "GIB" FRYE, 69, of Barboursville, W.Va.,
husband of Reba Johnson. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday,
May 10, 2009, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, after
a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Gilbert recently retired as a
supervisor with the W.Va. Department of Highways. He was an avid horseman,
having owned his first horse when he was nine years old. He loved trail
riding with friends and spending time at the stables with his horses, Cody
and Pilgrim. Gilbert was the oldest of six children born to the late
Reverend Edgar and Ruth Dalton Frye. Also preceding him in death is his
first wife, JoAnn Adams Frye; and brother, Bill Frye. Gilbert leaves behind
three children. Angelia of Huntington, Eddie (Elsie) of Huntington, and
Kimberly (David) Dean of Hendersonville, Tenn.: six grandchildren, Amy of
Hendersonville, Tenn., Bret of Gallatin, Tenn., Michael, Jennifer and
Melissa of Huntington, W.Va., and Nathan of Hendersonville, Tenn.;
step-daughters, Karen and Melinda Johnson: and three step-grandchildren,
Dalton, Nicholas and Rebecca; sister and best friend, Ann (Doug) Kiser of
Catlettsburg, Ky.; sisters, Birdie (Jerry) Skaggs of Nashville, Tenn.,
Charlotte (Jeff) Brauer of Gallatin, Tenn.; and brother, Allen Frye of
Nashville, Tenn.; nieces, Donna, Sandi, Cheryl and Stephanie; nephews, Jerry
Allen, Joey, Jason and Brennan. Gib will be missed by many, including
coworkers Mark, Tim, Peggy and Shelly; and special friends, Greg and Shauna
Farley; as well as many other close friends too numerous to count.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 pm Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Chapman's
Mortuary, with Reverend Ken Allen and Rev. Paul Messer officiating. Burial
and graveside services will follow at the family cemetery in Harts, W.Va.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bret and Michael; nephews, Jason, Jerry Allen
and Joey; friends, Tim, Mark and Mike. 2 Timothy 4:7 - "I have fought
the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
