Obituary

Michael Ray Jenkins
February 3, 1961 - May 1, 2009

Michael Ray Jenkins

Michael died Friday evening, May 1, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV. He was born February 3, 1961, son of Ray and Jeanette Jenkins, his loving wife, Rebecca Beckett Jenkins, his two sons that he adored, Todd Michael and Bradley Taylor Jenkins, step daughter, Kalli Walters Moore, Brigitte Jenkins, mother of his children, step children, Sydney and Tyler Clay. He is also survived by his sister Kathy and husband, Scott Sturgeon, nieces Lauren and Jennifer, his brother David and wife Dee Jenkins, nephew, Christopher and a very special aunt, Clora Edmunds. His childhood was spent in the Highlawn area and he attended Highlawn Elementary, Enslow Junior High and was a 1979 Huntington East graduate.
While in high school he was a very talented trumpet player for Bob Tweel's marching band and was even honored to play on the Grand Old
Oprey Stage solo. His education continued at Marshall University where he earned a BA in Business Administration. He began his 25 year career with JC Penney while still in high school. His children became the focus of his life throughout the 90's and forward. Sports was the activity he loved to participate with all three children. He was president of Ona Elementary PTO, the Ona Little League and also president of the Barboursville Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow). Mike headed up the JCPenney After-School support of the Guyandotte Boy's and
Girl's Club. Community Service was imbedded deep in his heart. Michael joined Steve and Barry's in 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed his journey as new store opening director. He traveled all over the country taking a shell of a building and transforming it into a functioning store in 6 weeks. He made wonderful business and personal friendships through these builds. In October 2008 he married Rebecca and they had just begun their life together. Although terribly short, there was much joy. In his growing faith, Michael knew that "Better is
one day in the King's Courts than thousands elsewhere." We know that Michael is dancing with the King of Kings!
Visitation is Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 6-8pm at Chapman's Mortuary, 2851 Third Avenue, Huntington, WV Services to celebrate Michael's life will be Wednesday May 6, 2009 at 2 pm at Chapman's with Jeff Dailey, pastor, Tim Beckett and Troy Nicely officiating.
