Obituary

Jack Lee Thomas
February 17, 1936 - May 24, 2009

Jack Lee Thomas, 73, of Huntington, WV died suddenly at home Sunday, May 24, 2009, in the arms of his loving wife Barbara Randant Thomas. He was born in Huntington to T.A. and Garnett Marks Thomas on February 17, 1936. Jack was a loving, devoted husband and father. He was very involved as an officer and coach in various youth sports programs in the area, including Enslow Midget Football, Beverly Hills Youth Basketball and Eastern Babe Ruth Baseball. One of his greatest joys was serving as Scout Master for Troop 7 and becoming a member of the Order of Arrow. He graduated from Huntington East High School in 1954. He went on to complete the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Apprentice Program. He later served as instructor of the apprentice program for 20 years where he played an intricate roll in revising textbooks and materials. He was a member of I.B.E.W. 317 for 55 years. Not one for retirement he sought another avenue at Advanced Auto Parts where he enjoyed delivering and socializing with new found friends. Jack was an individual, a prankster and a sincere friend. It can be said that anyone who crossed his path was left with a lasting fondness.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a loving and special stepmother Annie Thomas, two sons, Jack Lee Thomas II and James Mitchell Thomas; brothers, James M. Thomas and William Thomas and a sister Virginia Thomas Harless. He is survived by his best friend and soul mate Barbara Randant Thomas, daughters Killeen Hinkle (Jackie), Terri Hollis (Jim), Mary Durstein (Bill) and Mary Elizabeth Thomas, two chosen sons JL Layne and Pete Adkins, special nieces Brenda Wamsley, Shawn Fox and Denise Santos. He has 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday May 26th from 5pm to 8pm and funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday May 27th at 12:30pm. Chapman's Mortuary services with Dr. R. Jackson Haga officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park.
