Frieda Chapman Mitchell
(July 25, 1923 - August 2, 2011)


Frieda Chapman Mitchell, 88, of Huntington, passed away Tuesday August 2, 2011 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 pm Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Chapman’s Mortuary, with Pastor Jerry Galloway officiating. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. She was born July 25, 1923, in Lawrence County Ohio, a daughter of the late Lonard H. and Liva Chapman. Her husband James Howard Mitchell, three sisters, Helen Richards, Ruth Dalton and Louise Lambert, and two brothers, Harold and Edgar Chapman also preceded her in death. She retired as a dining room manager, having worked for several different restaurants. She was a member of the Rockwood Missionary Baptist Church, Chesapeake Ohio, and a 50-year member of Huntington Chapter #8 Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Dianna Buchman, and Carolyn and Kenny Smith all of Huntington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Mada Chapman, and Robert and Carol Chapman all of Proctorville, OH; five grandchildren, Nicole Buchman and Cameron Buchman both of Huntington, Kenessa and Mike Thompson of Poca, WV, Kenneth M. Smith of Huntington, and Kyle and Missy Smith of Pittsburgh, PA; six great-grandchildren, Kenley, Kelsey and Lucas Thompson of Poca, WV, Coy and Emily Smith of Huntington, and Bella Smith of Pittsburgh, PA. Friends may call one hour prior to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
