Gladys Louise Chapman
(February 22, 1925 - June 3, 2015)



Gladys Louise Bauer Chapman, 90, of Huntington, WV, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted noon Friday, June 5, 2015 at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Jeffrey W. Arthur officiating. Entombment will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Abbey of Remembrance, Corridor of Faith. She was born February 22, 1925 in Mason County, WV a daughter of the late Vallie and Elizabeth Rebecca Durst Bauer. Her husband, Charles E. Chapman; four brothers, Sidney Earl Bauer, Manford Bauer, Vallie Bauer, Jr., and Christopher Harve Bauer; and three sisters, Lorena Elizabeth Floyd, Clarice Jones, and Marjorie Wineford Costanzo, also preceded her in death. Gladys was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School and was Salutatorian of her graduating class. She was a former employee of Owens Illinois Glass in the accounting department; retired from Chapman’s Mortuary in which she was associated with her husband; and was one of the original owners of Ashton Riverview Campground. She was a member of Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church and the Golden Rule Sunday School Class; was a member of Guyandotte Chapter #89 OES; Past Matron of Guyandotte Chapter #89 OES, Past Grand Marshall of OES of WV; and Past Grand Representative to Oregon from WV, a member of the Tri State Area Transplant Support Group and enjoyed the fellowship she shared with the September Club at Cross Roads United Methodist Church. Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Wayne and Rosemarie Chapman of Huntington; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Louise and Braxton Leaberry of Nashville, TN; three granddaughters, Melissa Marie Leaberry and her fiancé, Jason Topel, Katherine Louise Owen and her husband, Jordan, and Margaret Braxton Stepanchuk and her husband, Andrew; two grandsons, Charles Wayne Chapman II and Chase William Chapman; a great grandson, Benjamin Edward Stepanchuk; a soon to be born great grandson, Everett Carter Owen; two brothers, Merald Wayne Bauer of Proctorville, OH and Mack Allen Bauer of Pt. Pleasant, WV; a sister, Garnet Schwarz of Pt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her caregivers, her sister-in-law, Loumedia Holley, Debbie Maynard, Juanita Blevins, and Margaret Dillon. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Chapman’s Mortuary. Guyandotte Chapter #89 will conduct services at 7:30 pm on Thursday.
