John Layne "OB" Oblinger
(February 6, 1048 - February 7, 2018)



JOHN LAYNE "OB" OBLINGER, 70, of Barboursville (Martha), W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. John was born February 6, 1948, in Welch, West Virginia, to the late Lance and Eva "Tag" Lewis Oblinger. John Layne was a graduate of Welch High School and Marshall University, where he was a proud member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was an avid reader, especially of biographical and historical-related books. He was also a strong supporter and follower of Marshall University athletics. Ob was extremely service-oriented and was always willing to help out others, his school, community and the state of West Virginia. John was a retired teacher/coordinator of the Lincoln County (WV) School District. He was serving as a Cabell County Conservation District Supervisor and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Guyan Conservation District at the time of his death. Ob also served on the Cabell County Solid Waste Authority and was a past member of the Cabell County Democratic Executive Committee. He is survived by his beloved wife, Becky Alls Oblinger of Barboursville (Martha), W.Va.; daughters, Erica Layne "Bunny" Oblinger and Amber Joy Oblinger, both of Charleston, S.C.; his brother, Lance "Lanny" (Diane) Oblinger Jr. of Charleston, W.Va.; his feline baby, "Cortez"; as well as a great number of friends and acquaintances. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018, followed by a celebration of his life at 7 p.m. at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, W.Va. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Marshall University School of Medicine.
