She was surrounded by her immediate family. Born in Hinton, W.Va., and raised in Shawnee, Kan., she spent most of her adult life in Northern Virginia, Virginia Beach, Va., and Barboursville. The daughter of Debby Sullivan Hardin and the late Stewart Sullivan, Maureen was married to Ernest Paynter for 24 years and raised three children, while also spending a career working in government, primarily for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She was awarded five Army Achievement Medals for Civilian Service during her career. All three of her children served in, or are currently serving in, the U.S. Armed Forces. Maureen was loved by all and is known for her kindness, creativity and her sense of humor. She is preceded in death by her father, Stewart Sullivan. She is survived by her mother, Debby Sullivan Hardin, and her stepfather, John Hardin of Mountain View, Ark., her stepmother, Norma Sullivan of Hinton, W.Va., her older sister, Deborah Austin, and her older brother, Patrick Sullivan, and her three children, Tim, Bryan and Katie Paynter.
