In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 61 years, Wilda Evon Tenney Chenoweth; an infant great grandson, Graham Albert Noe; brother, Asbury Webb Chenoweth and sister in-law, Lois Chenoweth. Jim is survived by five children: Helen Evon (JR) Chapman of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mildred Ruth (John) Aluise of Huntington, Roberta Jean (Ron) Ferguson of Kenova, Robert James Chenoweth, III (Becky) of Barboursville and David Law Chenoweth of Huntington; eight grandchildren: Dr. Karie Anne Barbour of Bridgewater, Va., Seth Alan Barbour of Troutman, N.C., Kory Allison (David) Noe of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mendy Aluise (fiancé Jeff Chapman), John Michael Aluise, Christopher Joseph (Sarah) Aluise of Huntington, Maggie Elizabeth Chenoweth of Barboursville and Ronald Morgan Ferguson, Jr. of Kenova, as well as one great grandson: Tate Owen Noe of Chattanooga, Tenn. Additionally, he is survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly; special friends, Kent Barbour and Rick Knight; and a host of wonderful friends who blessed and enriched his life and ministry. Jim graduated from South Charleston High School in 1944. At the age of 18, he entered the ministry when appointed to serve as the pastor at Grace Methodist Church in Charleston. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Morris Harvey College in 1948. In 1951, he earned the Master of Divinity Degree from Westminster Theological Seminary in Westminster, Md. During 43 years in active ministry in the United Methodist Church, he also served at Wesley in Vienna (6 years), Pineville (11 years), Highlawn in Huntington (9 years) and Nighbert Memorial in Logan (8 years) before retiring in 1989. Jim preached thousands of sermons during his years in the ministry, but will be remembered for the sermons he lived. He demonstrated and taught God’s love by precept and example daily. When diagnosed with serious illness, he exhibited the same courageous spirit and unwavering faith practiced throughout his life. He was a dedicated man of God, devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, beloved brother, avid sports enthusiast (gifted deer hunter, chess and ping pong player) and active at Cross Roads United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. The family extends sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff and friends at Wyngate Senior Living Community, Hospice of Huntington and to Pastors David Cartwright and Bill DeMoss for their continued love and support.
