Obituary

William Francis Palmer, Jr.
(October 5, 1930 - May 31, 2014)



William F. Palmer, Jr., 83, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Saturday May31, 2014 after a short illness. Bill was born in New Castle, PA on October 5, 1930 to William F. Palmer Sr. and Sarah Ann Raney Palmer. A graduate of New Castle Senior High School, bill served as a Staff Sargeant in the U.S. Air Force in the U.S, England and Japan. He was Honorably discharged in 1954. He married Mary Kathryn (Mickey) McGuirk on May 25, 1957. Mickey preceded him in 2010. Bill worked for many years as a machinist at the New Castle Refactories. In 1971, he began working for the CSX Railroad, retiring in 1995. Bill volunteered as a coach for youth sports including Little League and Pop Warner football. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the Pittsburgh pirates, Steelers and Penguins. He is survived by his children; Elizabeth A (Keith) Totten, William J (Melissa) Palmer, Robert A Palmer, Barbara J (Marcus) Phillips, and his grandchildren, Arthur, Kaitlyn and Jacob Totten, Marci and Christian Palmer, Daniel, Maria, Alex and Kyle Phillips. He is also survived by a brother David R Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years; three sisters, Helen Miller, Mary Bodendorfer and Joanne Thompson and three brothers George, Charles and James Palmer. There will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be held on 10:00 AM Thursday, June 5, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Chapman�s Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
