Roma Kathleen "Katie" Stephenson
(February 20, 1923 - May 16, 2014)



Roma Kathleen “Katie” Stephenson, 91, of Huntington, WV, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at Midland Meadows Senior Living, Ona, WV. She was born February 20, 1923 in Leon, WV the daughter of the late Rev. Samuel Wellman and Minnie Holbrook Wellman. She graduated from Fort Gay High School in 1941. She served in the war effort by making bomb detonators for the U.S. Navy in WW II. She was a faithful member of Cox Landing United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lovic Stephenson, Jr.; three sisters, Exer Conard, Dorothy Billups, and Pauline Hendrick; four brothers, Edgar E., George E., Ovet M., and Paul Wellman; and a niece, Mary Dougherty. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the special friends and church members who helped Kate when she needed it the most. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Monday, May 19, 2014, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Carl W. Mouser officiating. Viewing will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery, Cabell County.
