Obituary

William (Bill) D. Maynard
(September 9, 1935 - May 13, 2014)



William (Bill) D. Maynard, 78, of Huntington, WV, died Tuesday May 13, 2014 in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Bill was born September 9, 1935 in Logan, WV, a son of the late Vester (S.V.) and Esta Queen Maynard. He was a retired optician from Sears Optical, a member of First Baptist Church of Ceredo and a member of the Marshall University Big Green. He played football for Marshall University in 1953-54, and was a lifetime member of the Marshall University M Club and an annual member of the Marshall University Quarterback Club. He was a retired high school football and basketball official and former president of the Western West Virginia Football Officials Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers (and sisters-in-law), Marvin J. Maynard (Edna Puckett Maynard) and Stanford C. Maynard (Betty Cox Maynard). Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jane Burks Maynard; one son, Randall Alan Maynard of Milton, WV; one daughter, Leah Michele Maynard of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Delores Jean Maynard of West Logan, WV; two brothers, Masil C. Maynard of Chapmanville, WV and Darrell V. Maynard and sister-in-law, Frances White Maynard of Charlottesville, VA; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Rankin Maynard of West Logan, WV and Jean Burks of Ona, WV; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted 10:00 AM Saturday May 17, 2014 at Chapman’s Mortuary Huntington with Pastor Rodney Hale officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Marshall University Big Green Scholarship Foundation or to the First Baptist Church of Ceredo. Friends may call at Chapman’s Mortuary from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday May 16, 2014
