Obituary

Jane Lois Conover Martin, 88, of Barboursville WV, formerly of Charleston, WV, passed away on January 29, 2016 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington where she received tender, merciful care. Jane was born on December 13, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio. She graduated from Schuster-Martin School of Drama and Radio in Cincinnati, Ohio where she met and married her husband, Doug Martin. Jane was active in local theater in Charleston, playing many memorable roles in Kanawha Players, Children's Theater, and Charleston Light Opera Guild productions. During her career in broadcasting she held a variety of jobs. She was one of the first women disk jockeys in the area, hosting her own show on WKAZ radio. In the '70's Jane worked at WCHS-TV as the late night weather personality. In the 80's Jane and Doug owned and operated The Athlete's Foot shoe franchise in Charleston, Parkersburg, and Huntington. An avid runner, Jane ran in eight Charleston Distance runs and two marathons. She moved to Barboursville in 1999 and continued making commercials and doing print ads for several years. In 2004 she was honored to be among the first inductees into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame at the Museum of Radio and Technology in Huntington. Jane was active in the Barboursville Senior Center for many years. She enjoyed residing at the Midland Meadows Senior Living Community for nearly four years. Jane greeted each day with a smile and a song and enjoyed friendships with the residents and staff there. Jane was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her daughters Pamela Ovens (Peter) of Hilton Head Island, SC, Terri Stark (Freddie) of Barboursville, WV, and her son David Martin (Pat) of Bradenton, Florida and by her grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved her dearly. Her family would like to thank the compassionate staff and care-givers at Midland Meadows Senior Living for their loving care through the years. At Jane's request, private funeral services will be held at a later date.
