Obituary

William Cecil McClure, 79, of Alkol, WV formerly of Huntington, WV unexpectedly departed this world January 1, 2016 at CAMC in Charleston, WV and claimed the victory won by his Savior Jesus Christ at the cross of Calvary. Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the McClure Family Cemetery, Alkol, WV, Lincoln County, with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 4768 Alum Creek WV. He was born March 15, 1936 in Alkol, the oldest of eleven children to the late Edward Boyd and Barbarine (Harless) McClure. In addition to his parents, those awaiting his arrival in Glory include his son, Jon Eric, grandson Andrew Gary, and brother Randy McClure. Survived by his spouse Martha (Pauley) McClure and those left to cherish his memory including his grateful sons: Michael David of Huntington, Scott Edward of Ona, and Ryan William McClure of Barboursville; daughter-in-law Angela (Harrah) McClure; the grandchildren he adored, Chad, Joshua, Stephen and Tara (Sanders), Drake, William, Ava, Ella McClure and Brent Race; his brothers and their spouses, Alton and Barbara, Buddy and Abby, Averill and Gale, and Mickey McClure; his sisters and their spouses Chloetta and Larry Booth, Helen and Wayne Roberts, Marion and Mack Stone, Carolyn and Chuck Adkins, and Teresa and Jerome Adkins; the multitude of nieces and nephews he dearly loved and countless friends. "Bill" served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea (1959-62). He worked several years at ACF and the City of Huntington, retiring in 2001. "Cec" was blessed with an exceptional athletic ability. He excelled at baseball and softball, playing with several of his brothers on the Alkol softball team. In Huntington, he dedicated many years to youth athletics as a baseball coach at Little League #6. "Coach" McClure helped mold the lives of many young people, instilling in them his values of fair play and determination to always play your best. He spent his retirement with his beloved family. When he wasn't doting on his grandkids, "Papaw" could be found on the golf course. He was an avid golfer, frequently shooting scores lower than his age. He competed in the WVGA Senior Series for several years and was well known throughout the local golfing community. But it was with his family that his heart belonged and he was his happiest. "Dad" always came when needed, always gave without being asked, always answered when called. Although he answered to many names in this life, it was when his Loving Heavenly Father called saying "child, come home", he knew that voice and had to follow. Thus bringing to an end a life well-lived by a man who will be long remembered by those who knew him, and never forgotten by those who loved him. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington.
