Joe Elmer Fitzgerald, 86, of Barboursville, WV, passed away on Friday October 7, 2016 in St. Mary's Medical Center. Private services will be held at a later date with Pastor Jerry Matt officiating. Joe was born July 7, 1930 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Joseph McKinley and Goldie Pridemore Fitzgerald. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War and a retired Computer Engineer from IBM. Joe was also preceded in death by one brother, William Workman, two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Ilene Caudill and his son, Timothy J. Fitzgerald. Survivors include his wife Edna Mae Fitzgerald, two daughters, Rebecca J. Rukse (Dana) of Greensburg, PA and Amy L. Fitzgerald of Lesage, one son, Joseph M. Fitzgerald of Barboursville, two brothers, George Fitzgerald (Helen) of Huntington and Robert Fitzgerald (Paula) of Lenoir, NC, four granddaughters, Jessica Halley (Corey), Bailey K. and Darby S. Fitzgerald, and Michelle Lawrence, five grandsons, Joshua C. Rukse (Kara), Sean E. Rukse (Julie), Brandon C. and Bryant C. Vernatter, and Connor R. Fitzgerald, several great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Veterans Honor Guard Post 16 will conduct military graveside rites. Chapman's Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
