Obituary


CARL E GIBSON, 88, left to go to his new home in heaven on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016, surrounded by his family. Memorial funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday October 6, 2016 at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington with Pastor Kim Stone officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born to Ira and Bertha (Thompson) Gibson on July 14, 1928 in Huntington, WV. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Charlie, Clyde and Boyd, sister Mildred and infant daughter Carol Louise. He is survived by his loving companion of 40 years, Marjorie; by his daughters Shirley (Larry) Scarberry, Gloria (Charles) Algeo, Tracy Adkins and son Gregg (Janet) Scarberry, along with stepchildren Tommy (Angie) Hatfield, Michael (Myong) Shelton, Connie (Robert) Wanner and Kimberly (John) Legg. Also surviving him are his brothers Donald, Glen and Sherman (Margie) and sisters Janet Shepherd, Thelma (Jimmy) Thacker , Rhetta Skaggs and Leona (Sidney) Morgan. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren along with special nieces and nephews very close to him. Carl was a long-time employee of Duncan Box and Lumber Company in Huntington, WV. Carl was an avid train collector and enjoyed his train shows. As Carl said to everyone, "Be good and be careful." The family wishes to thank the staff of Emogene Dolin Hospice House for their care and support in Carl's last days here with us.
