Obituary

LOUIS RANDALL JEFFREY
(July 16, 1940 - December 11, 2014)

My Father, LOUIS RANDALL JEFFREY, died following a brief illness at Cornerstone Hospital of Huntington on December 11th. He was born in Huntington on July 16th, 1940 and spent the majority of his years in the state that he was fiercely proud of, West Virginia. My Father graduated from Barboursville High School in 1958 and served in the Army immediately after. He married the love of his life, Charlotte Pauline Cabell, August 31,1962 and then I came along in 1964. He retired from INCO after working there for 30 years. He loved and appreciated the outdoors, was an avid hunter and would have us all remember that many a fish met it's maker at the end of his line (although I think he enjoyed sitting in his boat in the sunshine more than dealing with the fish). My mother passed away from leukemia in 1999 and he had to find a new purpose in life. I was very proud of the way he adapted, although he would find life without her not to be the same. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Della and Leo Jeffrey, and a sister, Karen Jeffrey Hudson. He is survived by his older brother, Larry Jeffrey and his family in Tallahassee Florida, a younger brother, Dwight Jeffrey and his family in Jacksonville, Florida and a sister, Kathy Jeffrey and her family in Gastonia, North Carolina. He also has a sister-in-law, Sue Hall and her family from Salt Rock, and Thelma Cabell and her family, also from Salt Rock. He leaves behind one grandson, Nathan Jeffrey, who is currently enrolled in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. I know he was very proud of his grandson and offered him the same encouragement as he did for me when I left for college. My father was a private man, although he loved talking politics, hearing stories and meeting new people. He loved a good book, stock car races and his mother's blackberry cake. He lived a simple life. Looking back, I realize what great parents I had, both growing up here in the Huntington area as well as moving on in life as an adult. Mom was the emotional rock, who wore her heart on her sleeve and was always there with a hug. Dad was the ultimate in practicality and the no-nonsense giver of advice. They taught me right from wrong, instilled a work ethic that has served me well in my professional life and gave me a great sense of balance in my life. For that, I thank them both, I will continue to miss them daily and owe them a debt that now, can't be repaid. I will do my absolute best to make them proud, raise my son the right way and to sing their praises every chance I get. Dad, I love you and thank you for everything. A special thank you to his cousin, Mike Eden, who helped my father daily over the past several years. I also want to thank my uncle, Bob Hall, who was with him when he passed, and a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff at St. Mary's Medical Center and Cornerstone for such excellent attention during his illness and for Dr. Shawn Coffman, who oversaw his care. - Scott Jeffrey. Services will be conducted at noon Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Ridgelawn Memorial Park Abbey of Devotion by the Rev. Tommy Jeffrey, with visitation one hour before. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
