Margerilla B. “Margie” Simmons , 93 ,Lexington, KY, formerly of Huntington, WV, widow of Paul W. Simmons, passed away , Saturday, April 23, 2016 at her daughters home in Lexington, Ky. She was born April 14, 1923 in Prestonsburg, KY, a daughter of the late Ballard Branham and Mabel O’Connor Branham. She graduated from Berea College in 1945 and taught business and math in Floyd County, Kentucky and Cabell County, West Virginia public schools before retiring in 1986. She was a life member of the Cabell County Education Association, participated in area activities for senior citizens, and was active in the Cabell-Wayne Association for the Blind. A member of Tucker Memorial Baptist Church since 1955, she served the Lord in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher, choir member, Bible school director, librarian, deaconess, and church treasurer for more than 12 years. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by seven sisters, one brother, and one grandson. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law , LCDR John Simmons (Samantha) of Stafford, Virginia and Paul Simmons (Donna) of Gahanna, Ohio, one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (Paul) Compton of Lexington, KY. Also surviving are two grandsons, three granddaughters, two granddaughters –in-law, and one great granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Scott Byard, burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Friends may call from 6-8 Pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
