ObituaryGAE NELLE WORKMAN ELLIXSON
GAE NELLE WORKMAN ELLIXSON, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away on January 6, 2017, at the age of 88. Visitation will be held at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville, W.Va., on January 10, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, on January 11, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Dr. David Lemming of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church and Rev. Kerry Bart of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be held at Woodmere Memorial Park immediately following the funeral services. Wallace Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements. Gae was born in Fort Gay, W.Va., on March 16, 1928. She attended Marshall University and was Miss Marshall and a Homecoming Queen runner-up in 1946. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau and was active in the theaters. Her major was Special Education. She taught in Logan County, Barnett, and Lincoln grade schools. She stopped teaching to raise her family. She later became a caregiver to her mother-in-law, mother, and husband. Gae enjoyed collecting quilts, angels and records of her favorite music. She has been singing in a choir since the age of 17. Gae is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harold Ellixson and parents Charles Workman and Jessie Adkins. She is survived by two sons, Sam (Dixie) Ellixson of Barboursville W.Va., and Cliff (Shar) Ellixson of Lexington Ky.; a daughter, Terri Jones of Richmond Ky.; her sister Sharon Workman, half-brothers Steve and David Workman and half-sister Carol Sue Nagy; her grandchildren Shawn and Matthew Ellixson, Jason and Lindsay Boggs, Bryan West, Maeley and Nash McGaughey, Ashlei Steinbrecher and Jordan McCoy. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, and a dear niece, Sandra Ellixson. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House and St. Mary's Medical Center for their support in her final days.
