Henriette Blanche Davis Brooks
(August 26, 1922 - July 15, 2013)



Henriette Blanche Davis Brooks, 90, of Huntington, WV, peacefully went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, July 15, 2013, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. We are thankful for God’s grace and mercy to our Mother. She was born August 26, 1922 in West Lafayette, IN a daughter of the late James Paul and Elise Kull Davis. Her husband, James Ballard Brooks; a brother, John Davis; and a grandson, Seth Post; also preceded her in death. Mrs. Brooks received a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics with a minor in Biology from Purdue University, where she was a member of the Shoemaker House. She received her Masters Degree in Biological Sciences from Marshall University. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Honorary Sorority. She was a retired Huntington East High School teacher and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Survivors include: three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara (Don) Post of Elkton, MD, Yolanda (Mike) Dennison of Hurricane, WV, and Phyllis (Clinton) Ball of Knoxville, TN; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Thomas “Tom” (Carla) Brooks of Huntington and John Ballard (Billie) Brooks of Proctorville, OH; fifteen grandchildren, Jacqueline (Chris Jones) Duvall, David “Bo” Duvall and fiancée Samantha Bono, Katherine (Brian) Young, Nathan (Julie) Post, Matthew Brooks (Karla) Dennison, Aaron Dennison, Stephen Ball, Elise Ball, Paul (Sarah) Brooks, Mary-Heather (John) Cross, James (Chelsea) Brooks, Lauren (Aaron) Goldstone, Heather (Matt) Fletcher, Jessica (Jason) Huffman, and Travis (Kristy) Henderson; sixteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Braun of West Lafayette, IN, Marqueta Landis of Englewood, FL and Janice Harris of Lafayette, IN; a brother, Paul (Vicky) Davis of Springfield, IL; an “adopted daughter and son”, Pat and Steve Freitag of Huntington; and an abundance of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3043 Washington Blvd., Huntington, WV 25705 or Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Huntington, with Rev. Mark Kloha officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
