Velma Juanita "Tootsie" Rider
(February 3, 1928 - July 3, 2013)

Velma Juanita “Tootsie” Rider, 85, widow of Arnold Ray Rider, of Lesage, WV was born February 3, 1928 on Bryant Creek, Cabell County, WV, the daughter of the late Lillie and Everett Cooper. She attended Barboursville high School. She was a homemaker and a Home Health Care Provider. During her life in addition to her parents and husband she laid to rest three brothers, Charles, Ronald, and Donald Cooper, two brothers-in-law, Eugene Rider, Richard Saunders, and two sisters-in-law, Gloradean and Donna Cooper. She rested this life July 3, 2013 at her home. She will be held in loving memory by two sons, Danny Ray Rider and his friend Carrie, of Delaware, OH, Sandy Rider of Alabama, David Arnold and Melinda Rider of Carmi, Ill, two daughters Ruth Kingery of Lesage, Tracey and Curt Black of Huntington, two step daughters Leca and Louie Clary and Kate and June Holley all of Glenwood. One special sister Verna and Charles Simpson of Lesage, three sisters –in-law Helen Rider of Delaware, OH, Beatrice Cooper of Greenbottom and Opal Saunders of Glenwood. Eleven grandchildren Vanessa & Travis Stidam, Deanna & Donnie Turner, Joshua Rider & friend Chrissy, David Jr. & Becky Rider, Nelson & Sara Rider, Courtney Caldwell & friend Kevin Montgomery, Jay Meadows & friend Carrie Hall, Jodi & Chad Brown, Melissa and Garland Holley, Lonnie Clary, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and multiple nieces & nephews. Special thanks to Christa & James Bishop & family, special friends Susie Mauck & Joyce Cogan and “all” the Huffmans. Grandsons and sons-in-law will be pallbearers. Funeral service will be conducted 7:00 PM Friday July 5, 2013 at Apostolic Life Cathedral in Guyandotte. Burial will be in Union Ridge Cemetery, Glenwood, WV. Friends may call at Apostolic Life Cathedral from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday. Chapman’s Mortuary Huntington is assisting the family.
