Obituary

Margaret Jean Theis
(June 21, 2013)

Peggy Theis, age 83, joined that great cloud of faithful witnesses on Friday, June 21,2013. The grace, trust, and calm spirit with which she faced her last illness has been a beautiful demonstration of the peace of God that surpasses understanding. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Hissem and Helen Cunningham Hissem; brother, Alan Hissem; sister, Betty Morris; and husbands, Walter D. Moore and John Theis. Peggy delighted in special times with her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law who lovingly cared for her in recent months, Cindy and Howard Jones of Birmingham, Alabama; her daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Robert Kilgore of Pritchard, West Virginia; six grandchildren whom she adored, Adam Jones and wife Carla, Timothy Jones and wife Manna, Meghann Blankenship and husband Jeff, Marissa Jones, April Kilgore and Rob Kilgore; and six precious great-grandchildren, Grant, Natalie, and Alyse Jones, Riley Jones, Jackson and Brooklyn Blankenship. Peggy is also survived by her nieces and nephew, many friends, and her faithful pet and companion, Toby. Peggy loved her brothers and sisters in the Lord's church at 26th Street in Huntington, W Va., and in Chelsea, Al. Though her time at Chelsea was brief, she encouraged and inspired by her example of humility, faith, and love. Peggy also touched the lives of many colleagues and students in the School of Medicine at Marshall University. Her many years of dedicated service to the medical school leave a lasting legacy. The family will receive friends on, June 24, 2013, from 6pm until 8pm at Chapman's Mortuary in Huntington, West Va. Funeral service will be June 25, 2013 at 10am. The family will receive friends in Birmingham on June 27, 2013, from 6pm until 8pm at Ridouts Southern Heritage. Funeral services will be June 28, 2013, at 10am at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Peggy's family has established the Peggy (Margaret) Theis Endowed Scholarship to benefit the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University. Donations may be made in her memory in care of Margaret “Peggy” Theis Scholarship at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, att: Linda Holmes, 1600 Medical Center Drive, Huntington, WV 25701. Throughout her life, Peggy faced trials, uncertainty, and loss with faith and an indomitable spirit, always ready to courageously begin again. Never was this more evident than in her decision this year to leave her home, possessions, and friends of many years in order to be near her daughter and join her new spiritual family at Chelsea. Peggy was not daunted when she became ill. She began again, not knowing what the future held, for she was truly looking for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Although we will miss her dearly, we know that we will meet her again in that land.
