Obituary

Donovan Watts Quesenberry, Jr., Lt Colonel, USAFR, Farmer, Kiwanian, Landscape Architect, Entrepreneur. "Precious (costly) in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15. Don, as he became affectionately known, fell asleep in Christ, Monday, 28 December 2015 in Huntington, WV. He was born 19 August 1927 in Wayne County, WV, the first of two children to the late Donovan Quesenberry and Inis Ferguson. Raised by his maternal grandfather, Albert Ferguson, he graduated from Wayne High School at 15 years of age during World War II. Later involved in the Aviation Cadet program at WVU, Don decided to enlist and was deployed overseas with the American Occupation Army in Europe in 1946. Assigned to an Army Air Corp construction crew, he once rammed in bull dozer into an abandoned German structure on a captured air field only to discover a Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter hidden within. After active duty Don continued with the Air Force Reserve, eventually becoming a liaison officer for the U.S. Air Force Academy. His military service lasted 33 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Don married the late Francis Collins of Crown City, Ohio, in 1956, and they raised four children together: Becky, Marilyn, Donovan III, and the late Marshall Scott. He was devoted to community service through Kiwanis for over thirty years, and was a founding member of the West Huntington Kiwanis Club. One of his original fundraisers for the Huntington community was the promotion of the Chuck Ripper artist series of wildlife prints. Visitation will be held at Chapman's Mortuary, 3rd Avenue, Huntington, WV from 1 pm till 2 on Monday, 4 Jan 2015. The Memorial celebration will be directly afterword with Evangelist David Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park.
