Obituary



Frowd F. Sutphin, 86 of Huntington, WV, died Sunday October 25, 2015 in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born April 4, 1929 In Milton, WV, and was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Sylvia Chapman Sutphin. After receiving his BA degree from Marshall and doing post graduate studies at Ohio State, Frowd worked several years as a radio broadcaster at WWKO at Canonsburg, Kentucky, WNXT in Portsmouth, Ohio, WHTN in Huntington, WMOV in Ravenswood and WTCS in Fairmont, owned and operated by Connie B. Gay, founder of the Country Music Association. He retired from the West Virginia Tax Department as a senior tax appraiser of industrial real estate and equipment in 1993 and was a Kentucky Colonel. Frowd was also preceded in death by his wife, Iris (Billie) Isaacs Sutphin and son Craig Sutphin. Survivors include a son Mark Sutphin of Hurricane, brother and sister-in-law Oley Kirk and Sue Sutphin of Hurricane, granddaughters, Nicole Curry of Ona, Tiffany Sutphin of Nitro, Brandi Jones of Huntington, great granddaughters, Riley Curry of Ona, Emma Hughes of Nitro, great grandsons, Holden and Hayden Jones of Huntington, Caleb Curry of Ona, Aiden Hughes of Nitro and stepson, Gary Isaacs of Grove City, Ohio. Other survivors are nephew Brian Sutphin of Tampa, Florida, niece Kimberly Mays of Hurricane, great nephew Jacob Hush of Hurricane, brother-in-law, Harvey Hall of Rome, Ohio, sister-in-law, Virginia Isaacs Wood of Huntington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington. Visitation from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Tuesday October 27, 2015 at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington. The funeral procession will leave at 2:00 PM going to Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, OH, for a 2:30 graveside service.
