Obituary

Jeanette Elaine Sjodin Hood
(June 22, 1927 - March 15, 2018)

Jeanette Elaine Sjodin Hood of Barboursville, WV passed away on March 15, 2018 at the Wyngate Senior Living Facility. Jeanette was born June 22, 1927 in Remer, Minnesota to Lewis and Ruby Wilson Sjodin. She lived in Minnesota until she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico after WWII to work with the Civilian Conservation Corps. It was in New Mexico that she met and married her husband William Hood. They moved back to Barboursville in the late 1950’s. Jeanette was a career Federal civilian employee working for both the Corps of Engineers and the Office of Hearings and Appeals, Health and Human Services in Huntington, WV - taking time off between those two employments at the agencies to be a full-time, stay-at-home mother. She was a proud mother and homemaker, and later a loving grandmother and great-grandma. She retired in the mid 1990’s to care for her husband who passed away in 1998. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers - Rog, Roy, Louis, and Kenneth; and seven sisters - her identical twin Janice, Verona, Mamie, Joyce, Beth, Betty, and Anna Marie. She is survived by her daughter Anna Kinker (Sam) of Barboursville; her grandchildren Nathan (Ashley), Hannah (Josh), Leah (Thor), and Seth; her two precious great-grandchildren Ella Kate and Luke Andrew; and a sister, Jane. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Wyngate Senior Living Community for their love, compassion, and care for the past eleven years during the time she lived there. In particular, during the past month when Jeanette was experiencing declining health, there was hardly an hour that went by that someone was not seeing to her needs and offering encouragement and support. Words cannot fully express the family’s appreciation for her experiences at Wyngate. Certainly, the staff of Wyngate was indeed an extended family. For the past three months, Jeanette was also under the care of Hospice of Huntington. During that time, she wanted for nothing as her “team” saw to her every need while making her feel loved and very special. Her family is very grateful for their professional services and unmatched level of compassion. A memorial service will be held at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, WV at noon on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, by Rev. Kevin Lantz. The family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Forest Memorial Park.
