Ronald Allen “Pete” Smith 63, of Huntington WV, husband of Barbara Olaker Smith, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012, in Saint Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 pm Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington with Dana Turley officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. He was born January 5, 1949, in Huntington, a son of the late Covy and Wanda Midkiff Smith. He was a US Navy veteran, and was a technician for Verizon Communications. Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Amy Johnson (Dan) of Huntington; one son, Peter Smith (Tara) of Malibu, CA; two grandchildren, Trevor and Tyler Johnson both of Huntington; brother, Gary Smith of OK; mother-in-law, Eula Olaker of Deltona, FL; sister-in-law Judy Gipple (Oliver), Deltona FL; brother-in-law David Olaker (Shirley) of Melbourne, FL; a special cousin and his wife, John and Judi Midkiff of Lancaster, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Toys for Tots.
