Obituary

James "Rodney" Tucker
(May 12, 1928 - December 16, 2013)

James “Rodney” Tucker, 85, of Huntington, WV, husband of Mary Kathryn Kiff Tucker, passed away Monday December 16, 2013 at Madison Park, Huntington. He was born May 12, 1928 in Huntington, a son of the late Albert Franklin “A.F.” and Sue Mae Heaton Tucker. In addition to his parents, his two brothers, Charles Heaton Tucker and Edward Heaton Tucker, precede him in death. Mary K. says that Rodney, a kind, gentle, and sensitive man, was all about his family and church. Every Sunday was for worship and thanksgiving. He made sure of that! Many hours were spent in the planning and building of the construction of the church as his heart was totally in it! He was one of a kind and supported the work of the Burlington Children’s Home in Burlington, WV. His favorite scripture, which he quoted to me when he presented me with my engagement ring and asked me to marry him, is Romans 8:28 (KJV) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rodney served as Corporal in the U.S. Army and Army reserves during the Korean War, in the 28th division 103 engineering battalion in Germany and obtained the Good Conduct Award and Occupation Medal for Germany and Japan. He attended V.P.I. and became a registered Architect with his father at A.F. Tucker. He was a member of Beverly Hills United Methodist Church, and served as treasure for the A.I.A., American Institute of Architects. He also enjoyed his 19 years working in his son-in-law’s restaurants in the area. In addition to his wife survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lydia and John Tudor of Huntington; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Tucker of Dallas, TX; a very special sister-in-law, Harriet Tucker of Huntington; and six grandchildren, Joseph Tucker, Michael Tucker, John Tudor, William Tudor, David Tudor, and Kristen Tudor. A celebration of his life will be conducted 1:00pm Saturday December 21, 2013 at the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church with Rev. William Haynes, Jr., officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the church at 2600 Washington Blvd, Huntington, 25705. The family will be accepting friends one hour prior to the celebration.
