Obituary



Ariel "Smitty" Young, 88, of Huntington, died Monday, April 25, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2016, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Scott Hoppe officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Smitty was born October 15, 1927 in Widen, WV (Clay Co.) a daughter of the late Okey Carl and Ora Pearl Comer Smith. Smitty was also known as Grandma to most everyone. She was the owner and operator of the former Young's Restaurant, a member of the Bates Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Women's Circle Group at the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Young; her son, Marshall Lewis Young; brothers, Cliff, Mac, Keith, Jerry Wayne, Bud and Pops Smith; and sisters, Janie Bell Patterson and Janet Wolfe. Survivors include: two daughters, Deborah "Bunny" Hoffsted and Sara (Kevin) Parsons, all of Huntington; one son, Edward H. Young II of Ohio; grandchildren, Nick and Jasmine Parsons, Marshall Lewis Young II and Emily Young; one great granddaughter, Ellah Maree Young; one sister, Mary Burns of VA; and two brothers, Gary Lynn (Millie) Smith of Summerville, WV and Okey Carl "Boogie" Smith, Jr and wife Deanna of Ripley, WV. The family would like to send a special thanks to Nancy and Joe Bostar and a host of special nieces and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Emogene Dolen Jones Hospice House. Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 PM Friday at Chapman's Mortuary.
