Obituary



Harold Blanco Nazoa, 54, of Huntington, passed away peacefully March 25th, 2016, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born to the late Manuel Antonio Blanco Castillo and the late Cecilia Nazoa Olivero, December 8th, 1961, in Caracas, Venezuela. He graduated from Liceo Gustavo Herrera High School in Caracas, Venezuela in 1977. He moved to the United States in 1982 to pursue a college education. He earned his B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from Davis and Elkins College in 1987. He earned his M.A. in Family and Consumer Science in 1991, and his M.A. in Secondary Education in 2000, both from Marshall University. He received his Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from Ohio University in 2007. He was an Associate Professor and Instructional Technology Developer in Marshall University's College of Education and Professional Development. He was the recipient of a vast array of honors and awards. To highlight a few, he received the Teaching Achievement Award from Ohio University, the original Tutor of the Year Award from Marshall University's H.E.L.P. Program, and the Academic Achievement Award from Marshall University. He was a member of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the International Technology Education Association, the Upward Bound (TRIO) Program, the Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society, the Sigma Delta Phi Honor Society, the National Council of La Raza, and the Learning Disability Association of America. He was also honored as a Southern Regional Educational Board (SREB) Scholar. He married Carrie-Meghan Quick of Parkersburg on August 5th, 2006. He is survived by his two children: Armella Blanco, 17, and Laureano Blanco, 6 months, who both resided with him in Huntington. In addition, he is survived by his four siblings and their children: Werther Blanco of Newport News, VA, Luis Blanco of Nederland, TX, Erwin Blanco of Caracas, Venezuela, and Zuleyka Blanco of Caracas, Venezuela. He had a passion for life. He was a devoted father and husband with a love for teaching and his students. He was an avid cyclist, and he was at his happiest when spending time with family and friends. Anyone who met him saw just how special he was. The legacy he left in his family, friends, and students will live on forever. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday March 29, 2016 at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington. Funeral Mass will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday March 30, 2016 at St. Joseph's Church with Father Dean Borgmeyer and Father Zack Drennen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after 10:00 AM on Wednesday.
