Obituary



Bernice Faye Scott, 72, of Huntington, widow of James Richard Scott, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Chapman's Mortuary, with Pastor George Surgeon officiating. Burial will be in the Scott Family Cemetery, Fort Gay, W.Va. Bernice was born Dec. 21, 1944, in Lesage, W.Va., to the late Corbett and Josie Irene Fife Carter. Bernice is survived by three daughters, Melissa Scott and Shawn Opferman, of Erie, Pa., Judy and Tom Fenwick, of Lake Villa, Il., and Janet and Phillip Adkins, of Barboursville, W.Va.; three brothers, Corbett and Ginia Carter, Steve and Debbie Carter, and Bruce and Diana Carter; three sisters, Dorothy Roach, Evelyn and George Surgeon, and Sharon and Jack Brayton; four grandchildren, Olivia Adkins, Myah Adkins, Emily Fenwick and Rachel Fenwick; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends. Bernice worked many years as a manager at a Marathon service station in Guyandotte, W.Va. In addition to her husband and parents, Bernice was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Marie and Mildred Carter; and two brothers, George and William Carter. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at the funeral home.
