Obituary


Norma J. Hauber Smith, 85, of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017, in St. Mary's Medical Center. A mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10:00 am Friday, December 29, 2017, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with Father Paul Yuenger, celebrant. Burial will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, Greenup County, KY. Norma was born July 27, 1932 in Cresco, Iowa a daughter of the late Albert and Della Schiedalmetal Hauber. She received a BS from Northern Iowa University in Elementary Education and taught in Des Moines, IA, Austin, TX, and Yokota AFB, Japan. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gaylord D. Smith; two daughters, Colleen M. Schneck of Richmond, KY and Constance A. Smith-Monroy of Doylestown, PA; a son, Daniel E. Smith and wife, Shirley of Westport, CT; five grandsons, Todd, Kyle, and Troy Schneck and Keith and Kevin Smith; a sister, Marion Haskovic of Cresco, IA; brothers-in-law, Robert E. Smith and wife, Cindy of Iowa City, IA and Jerry F. Smith and wife, Nancy of Tijeras, NM; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her pride and joy was her family. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington.
