Leo E. Ours
(September 28, 1921 - August 23, 2010)



Leo E. Ours, 88, of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday, August 23, 2010, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. He was born September 28, 1921 in Huntington, a son of the late James V. Ours and Goldie Lee Southworth Ours. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Glenna Lou Ours; two brothers, Loren Ours and Raymond Ours; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Cathrine "Kitti" Ours. Leo retired from Kraft Foods after working 39 years as an account manager. He was recruited by Cam Henderson in the summer of 1942 and made the Marshall College team but prior to beginning classes, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 through 1945 as a member of the 662nd Medical Clearing Company. They cared for the wounded of the U.S. 1st and 3rd Armies, including the 81st and 101st Airborne Divisions, as they battled the Germans from the sands of Normandy and across Europe. Leo was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Western Star Lodge #11, AF & AM; Blue Lodge (Scottish Rite). "Coach Ours" was an all-state football player and co-captain of the Huntington High Pony Express Football Team. He spent many years assisting with local football teams and coaching Babe Ruth Baseball. Leo was a member of Cross Roads United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Board of Directors and was president of the United Methodist Men's Association for many years. He was also honored to have been accepted as a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include: two sons, Leo Ours, Jr. and his fianc'e, Linda Freeman, of Tampa, FL and Rodney Ours and his wife, Wanda, of Dunedin, FL; four grandchildren, Clinton Ours and his wife, Irene Ours, Erin Ours, Leo Ours III and his wife, Maria Ours, and Christopher Ours and his wife, Veronica Ours; four great grandchildren, Jackson Ours, Kathryn Ours, Alexandra Ours, and Ansley Ours. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, Huntington, with Pastor David Cartwright officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, with Western Star Lodge #11 AF & AM conducting Masonic Graveside Rites and serving as pallbearers and VFW Post 9738 conducting Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington and one hour before the services at the church.
