      Obituary

    Edward
    Eugene Smith

    (May 9, 1931 - August 8, 2010)

    Edward Eugene Smith, 79, of
Branchland, WV, formerly of Barboursville, passed away Sunday, August 8,
2010, in the early morning hour with his family by his side, after a short
battle with cancer. Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 PM Wednesday
August 11, 2010 at Chapman's Mortuary with Elder Pete Davidson officiating.
Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born
May 9, 1931 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Okey Hugh and Nellie
Johnson Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life
of 54 years, Jean Louise Smith; daughter-in-law, Sherry Austin; a grandson,
Eddie Miller; and two sisters, Virginia Boggess and Betty Bellomy. He is
survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Diane Smith of West
Virginia, and Mike and Jennifer Smith of Colorado Springs, CO.; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and John Parker of Cleveland, TN, and
Marsha "Sam" and Daniel Miller of Midkiff, WV, of which he thought of Daniel
as his own son; seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Special
grandchildren, Daniel Miller II, Kendra Miller Ross, and his youngest
grandson, Wade, all had a very special love for each other, and a great
granddaughter that would brighten his day, Jaylee Ross; Brother and
sister-in-law, Lowell Hugh and Lucy Smith of Canada; two sisters and a
brother-in-law, Jennette Muth and June Fox Hinchman and Richard Hinchman,
all of Barboursville. Ed was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War from
1948- 1951. He later married the love of his life and moved to California
where he formed two construction companies over twenty-five years. One with
his brother and nephew, Jedlo's and the other with a good friend, Smith and
Grananikie. After twenty-five years he wanted to return to West Virginia to
be close to his family. My dad was quiet and kind man that loved his family
and was always there for them. He retired from the construction industry in
1993 to care for his wife that suffered from Alzheimer's. He became her full
time caregiver and met all of her needs until the time of her death in 2006.
As a daughter growing up I always knew how big his heart was and how much he
loved his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We would
like to thank the nurses at St. Mary's Medical Center and especially two
special angels from hospice, Brenda and Sherry who cared for our mom and
four years later cared and comforted our dad. But most of all I want to
thank you God, for this man you put in my life, that I've had the honor of
calling Dad. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Hospice of
    Huntington.
