Odessa D. Fletcher
(January 6, 1921 - March 30, 2010)



Mrs. ODESSA D. FLETCHER, 89, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord, March 30, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Fletcher and a great-granddaughter, Macey Elizabeth Fletcher. Odessa was born January 6, 1921, in Wayne County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Scott and Clara Walker Adkins. She was retired from Maidenform, Inc., where she worked as a shop steward for several years. She was also a union representative for the ILGWU for shop stewards. Her union work took her many places throughout the U.S. She was an avid Democrat and she was always an active volunteer at the local polls during election time. She was a member of 18th Street United Baptist Church. Odessa was also preceded in death by five sisters, Ifa Matthews, Inez Frazee, Eva Adkins, Mary Bartram Davidson and Sharlie Jones; four brothers, Bold, Freelin, Mally and Eris Adkins. She is survived by two sons, Marvin (Sue Gail) Fletcher of Proctorville, Ohio and Allan (Marcia) Fletcher of Columbus, Ohio and a daughter, Karen (Gary) Taylor of Milton, West Virginia. Eight grandchildren, Richard (Shelli) Fletcher of Summerville, Georgia, Brett (Julie) Fletcher of Columbus, Ohio, Eric (Renee) Fletcher of Rome, Georgia and Matthew Fletcher of Cincinnati, Ohio. Brian (Becky) Fletcher of Ashland, Kentucky and Jennifer Fletcher Frye of Columbus, Ohio. Natalie (Benton) Hall of Milton, West Virginia and Shannon (Scott) Johnson of Greenville, North Carolina. Nine great-grandchildren, Michael Fletcher of Seattle, Washington, Katie Fletcher of Columbus, Ohio, Tyler and Kelsey Fletcher of Summerville, Georgia, Cailyn Brooke Hall of Milton, West Virginia, Sydney and Anna Johnson of Greenville, North Carolina, Ian Fletcher and his soon-to-be-here little brother, of Ashland, Kentucky and Alex Fletcher of Rome Georgia. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Odessa was a wonderful and kind person who was loved by all who knew her, she will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Thursday, April 1, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chapman's Mortuary, and funeral services will be Friday, April 2, 2010, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, Dr. Tim Yates officiating and music by Reverend Nathan McClay. Burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va.
