Joyce "Avis" Carter
(August 9, 1928 - September 9, 2010)



Joyce "Avis" Carter, 82, of Lesage, our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, went home to be with Jesus and other loved ones on Thursday September 9, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Sunday September 12, 2010 at Chapman's Mortuary, with the Rev. Phillip Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Greenbottom Memorial Park, Greenbottom, WV. Avis was born August 9, 1928 in Glenwood, WV, a daughter of the late Thomas Muncie and Evelyn Jarvis Stevens. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Chester Earl "Buddy" Carter, Sr.; infant sons, Brad, Gary, Larry, and Baby Boy Carter; and a special aunt, Audrey Grose. She attended Community Holiness Chapel in Lesage, enjoyed gardening, hunting arrowheads, fishing, watching her blue birds and hummingbirds, but mostly loved her family, friends and church. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Faye Carter, Wanda and John Oldaker, and Lucy and Jason Dornon, all of Lesage; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Earl Carter of Lesage, Danny and Carol Carter of Vinton, OH, and Pat and Kelli Carter of Huntington; two sisters, Vivian Hardesty of Ona, and Betty Mount of Glenwood; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Carolyn Stevens of Augusta, GA, Don and Joy Stevens of El Paso, TX, Billy and Sandy Stevens and Tommy and Judy Stevens, all of Huntington; six grandchildren, Matthew Oldaker, Melissa Oldaker Chafin and spouse Joe Chafin, Justin Oldaker and partner, Lora Frazier, Andrew Dornon, Hogan Carter, and Heidi Carter; and a special great granddaughter, Carly Oldaker. Friends may call 6:00-9:00 PM Saturday at Chapman's Mortuary.
