Julius "Duke" Kight
(August 6, 1925 - February 6, 2013)



Julius “Duke” Kight, 87, of Huntington, WV, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. He was born on August 6, 1925 in Richwood, WV a son of the late Ernest and Hulda Kight. After graduating from high school, Duke served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Out of the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Rader and attended West Virginia University, receiving his degree in electrical engineering. Later employed by Union Carbide, Duke and Dorothy moved to South Charleston where they raised their five children. As an active member of the First United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School and served on the church board. Duke was also very active in the Kanawha Valley tennis community. After the death of his wife, Dorothy, he was reunited and later married their longtime friend Gladys Booth Scott. Making their home in Huntington, WV, Duke continued his church involvement at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed singing in their choir. An avid fisherman, he spent many hours on lakes and in streams with his brother, Don. After retirement, he enjoyed golfing and gardening. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Gladys Booth Kight; his children, Valerie Kight, Viveca Leusch and her husband, Jim, Jay Kight and his wife, Joyce, Jayne Kight and Kimberly Prohovich; his brother, Don Kight and his wife, Jenette; his sister, Grace Khuri and her husband, Abe; and grandchildren, Leigh Ann and Harrison. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cinda Harkless officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1601 2nd. Ave. Charleston, WV 25387. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, and one hour before the service Sunday at the church.
