Obituary

John Daniel Skidmore
(February 7, 1935 - February 10, 2013)


John Daniel Skidmore, 78, of Huntington, WV, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Tim Arthur officiating. The Huntington Fire Department Honor Guard, Marine Corps League, and Veterans Honor Guard Post 16 will conduct services. John was born February 7, 1935 in Milton, WV a son of the late Okey Dyer and Verba Jewell Morris Skidmore. A brother also preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War. He was hired on July 18, 1962 at the Huntington Fire Department; became Lieutenant on November 29, 1968 and Captain on July 12, 1971; and retired on July 19, 1986 with 24 years service as a firefighter and he also did construction work while not working at the Fire Department. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League and was a member of VFW Post 9738 and American Legion Post 16. Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Irma C. “Chris” Chapman Skidmore; a daughter, Kathy Dee Wells of Lake Stevens, WA; a son, John F. Skidmore of Huntington; a sister, Kathryn Stevens of California; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Chapman’s Mortuary.
