Obituary

Ellen Louise Hill White
(March 6, 1926 - February 14, 2014)

Absent from the body; present with the Lord.

My Mother, Ellen Louise Hill White, 87, widow of H. Don White, entered Heaven Friday, February 14, 2014, surrounded by family and friends singing songs of praise. Mother was born March 6, 1926, in Mt. Hope, WV to the late Moodie and Virginia Williams Hill. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV, later attending business school. In 1944, she married Don White, the love of her life. Soon they moved to Memphis, TN, for Don to attend watch-making school, then returned to Huntington to work. In 1945, I became part of their lives. Mother worked several years for Perry Norvell Shoe Factory. Later, she began working at Evans Supermarket, then Penneyfare Supermarket, from which she retired as Manager of the Dairy Department. After retirement, she was asked to baby sit for two little boys, whom she loved. She was a faithful and active member for many years of Crossroads Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Master Club and sang in the choir. She took great joy in teaching the children, sending cards and serving where needed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Don, her husband of 54 years; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Homer and Bertha Franklin White; sister, Ruby Hill; brother, Bill Hill; sister-in-law, Doris Porter; brothers-in-law, Doyle White and Jim Barton; and son-in-law, Tommy Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Jones of Huntington; sister, Jacque Scites of Melbourne, FL; brother, Joe (Dolores) Hill of Columbia, SC; brother, Dennis (Sayra) Hill of Auburn, WA; sisters-in-law, Linda Hill of Melbourne, FL and Sharon Barton of Huntington; and nieces and nephews. I want to thank Loumedia Holley, Mae Ashworth, Kay and Louis Fricke, Sarah Care, and Hospice for the help they provided. I have been blessed by wonderful parents who taught me Christian values. I love you, Mother. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Crossroads Baptist Church, 875 Norway Avenue, with Pastor Trent Eastman and Pastor John Duffy officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 PM Saturday at the church. Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, is assisting the family.
