Obituary



Verena Jane Linkfield Kimler, 85, of Huntington, WV passed away peacefully on August 22, 2018. Visitation will be held at Chapman's Mortuary 5:00-7:00 pm, Sunday, August 26. The Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, August 27 at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Father Paul Yuenger will officiate. Internment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Verena was born September 10, 1932, in Huntington, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband Jennings Walter Kimler, parents Bridget and Herman Linkfield, and brother Larry Linkfield. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Wiseman Business School, and attended Marshall University Community College. She served as a volunteer for 28 years as secretary of the St. Joseph High School Invitational Tournament (SJI). In 1995 the SJI tournament was dedicated in her honor. Verena is also in the SJI Hall of Fame. Additionally, she was active with St. Joseph High School alumni, having planned and executed numerous multi-year class reunions. For 17 years she was a volunteer in the St. Joseph Nativity House Food Pantry. Verena served on the YMCA Buddy Basketball Board for 22 years as a volunteer. She was honored with several YMCA awards including their National Service Award. Verena was a 50-Year Lifetime Member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She is a past member of the Huntington Cotillion and StarDust Dance Clubs, where she also served as president. Verena's survivors include daughter Theresa Rapp, (Mark) and children Amelia Kathleen and Luke Linkfield; daughter Alicia Anderson and children Kristen Marie (Demetrious), Kelsey Michelle, Robert Jennings (Sarah) and Kara Verena; son Kirk Kimler, (Karla) and children Kane Patrick, Kyle Joseph, Mackenzie Jane and Cassidy Ann; great-grandchildren Malaina Jennings, Logan William and Norah Grace; sister Sue Carol Rodefer and brother Walter Linkfield. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at The Wyngate in Proctorville, Ohio.
