Obituary



Johnnie Earl "John" Lowe, 79, of Huntington, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at his daughter's home. He was born May 31, 1939 in Chesapeake, OH a son of the late Sherman and Betty Finley Lowe. One sister, Vada Mae Sibert, and three brothers, Paul, Bernie and Sherman Edmond Lowe also preceded him in death. He was a US Army veteran, started his working career on a river boat and retired as a blacksmith from ACF Industries after nearly 30 years of service. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, director of youth, a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and lead congregational singing at the church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Henson Lowe, whom he married November 7, 1959; one daughter and her husband, Catherine and Kenny Krantz; one son John Lowe, Jr.; 4 grandchildren, Erica Robbins (Richard), Mindy Meade (James), Andy Hammonds (Amy), and Matthew Hammonds; Cristal Crutcher; 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, August 17, 2018, at Chapman's Mortuary with Pastor Ray Vance and Pastor Buddy Muncy officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park with American Legion Post 93 of which he was a member conducting military graveside rites. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
