Obituary

Aldena Mae Osburn, 78, of Lavalette, VW went home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2018. Aldena was the daughter of Herman Bradford and Evelyn Ross. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Samuel Osburn, her parents, and brothers Clyde, Leonard, and Gary Ross, and sister, Essivie Ross. Aldena is survived by five children, daughters Vicki (Ron) Tabor, Kimberly (Carl Vernon) Adkins, and Valarie (Robert) Webb and two sons, John (Brenda) and Samuel Joseph (Marci) Osburn. She is the grandmother of eight grandchildren, John-Carl (Marissa) Adkins, Krista Webb, Christopher (Emily) Adkins, Kayli (Aaron) Layton, Mason Osburn, Carli Alden Adkins, Maddie and Maxwell Osburn. Surviving siblings are Betty Queen, Roger Ross, and Larry Ross. Aldena was the owner of Monty's Pizza for fourteen years in Chesapeake, Ohio. During that time, every Thanksgiving she would prepare a grand dinner and close the restaurant to serve the community a free dinner in appreciation for being her customers and for others in need. In her earlier days, Aldena, a deacon's wife, volunteered for numerous jobs such as the church's secretary, treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and youth group leader and was responsible for the baking of the unleavened bread for the Lord's table. In the school setting, she was a substitute teacher, served as homeroom mother, and for numerous years held the office of the PTA president overseeing fundraising for the school's needs. One major fundraiser provided new blinds, trays and tableware for the school cafeteria. lf someone needed a task completed, Aldena was the one to ask. As a grandmother, all of her grandchildren loved her dearly. She had a close, personal relationship with each one, and provided support and encouragement in those areas for each grandchild. Whether playing board games, laser tag, "snow monsters", building forts and largely designed hot wheel tracks, reading and creating princess stories, and beach time each summer, Mamaw made the time adventurous! She was everyone's cheerleader with all the encouragement she provided along with Scripture to validate each task. Elder John Anderson Osburn, her son, will be officiating the funeral. Aldena will be laid to rest beside her husband of 26 years, at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, 5547 W. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, WV. Services will be held at Chapman's Mortuary in Huntington, WV on November 9, 2018 at 2 PM. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 pm before the service begins. Pallbearers will be John Adkins, Chris Adkins, Aaron Layton, Robert Webb, Ron Tabor, Carl Adkins, John Osburn and Sam Osburn.
