Obituary



Emma Ellen Childers, age 89, went to Heaven on October 15, 2016 after a short illness. Emma Ellen Mellert was born on July 19, 1927, and grew up in West Huntington, the ninth sibling out of ten children. Emma was married to her beloved husband, Cloyd Elwood Childers, for 68 years. She was a devoted wife, mother to three sons, and a grandmother to five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Emma was a devout Christian, and had been a member of Open Door Baptist Church; Grace Gospel Church, where she sang in the choir; Crossroads Baptist Church; and South Point First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dolla Mellert; her father, George Mellert; her son, Mark Childers; her grandson, Joshua Childers; her sisters, Myrtle Cook, Georgia Sheldon, Mildred Byrd, and Geraldine Pauley; and her brothers, Hugh Mellert, Luke Mellert, George Mellert, and Joseph Mellert. Emma is survived by her husband, Cloyd Elwood Childers of South Point, Ohio; her sister, Elizabeth Napier of Huntington; her son, Michael Childers (Patricia) of Waynesboro, VA; her son, David Childers (Vicki); her grandchildren, Jon Childers (Meredith) of Seattle, WA, Sarah Beth Childers of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Jennifer Childers of Huntington, WV, and Rebecca Childers of Barboursville, WV; and her great grandchildren, Grace and Benjamin Childers of Seattle, WV. She also had a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, including the Joy Seniors that she enjoyed so much. Visitation is at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, Ocotber 18th, at the Reger Funeral Home, with the service following at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Lou Ashworth officiating. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery with no graveside service.
