Obituary



Donnist Ray Owens, 87, of Lavalette, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Larry Carico at 11 am on Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Donnist was born February 7, 1929 in Huntington, WV to the late Floyd Monroe and Inez Estelle Shepherd Owens. He was a truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict as a Sargent 1st Class. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a faithful member of Crockett-Booten United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Kathrine Owens; two brothers, Harold Owens and Thurman Owens; two infant sisters; and two son-in-laws, Philip Cyrus and Mark Adkins. He is survived by three daughters Pamela (Mike) Shafer, Terri Cyrus Adkins, and Donna Noce; a step-daughter, Judy Mays; a step son Jerry Vanfaussian; six grandchildren, Tara Barker, Lindsey (Dan) Mullis, Erin (Jason) Maynard, Eric Cyrus, Craig Noce, Douglas Noce; four step grandchildren Kellie Mayes, Kevin Mays, Erin Vanfaussian, Brock Vanfaussian; four great-grandchildren, Layne, Avery, Floyd Michael, and Christopher; and a special niece Judy Smith. The family would like to specially thank his caregivers Sharon and Jennifer. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Crockett-Booten United Methodist Church, c/o Larry Carico, 5321 Fisher Bowen Branch Rd., Wayne, WV 25570. Friends may call from 6 - 8 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Reger Funeral Home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Veterans Honor Guard of American Legion Post 16 of Huntington.
