Obituary

Vernon Lewis Peyton
(August 15, 1925 - October 22, 2018)



Vernon Lewis Peyton, 93, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018, at Wyngate Senior Living Community. He was born on August 15, 1925, in Huntington, WV, son of the late Creath and Genevieve (Duncan) Peyton; brother of the late Erwin Peyton and sister-in-law Charlotte; and husband of 70 years of the late Lillian Ernestine (Smith) Peyton. He is survived by his son Kim and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Peyton of Richmond, TX; daughter Karol Peyton of Cypress, TX; brother David Peyton and sister-in-law Susan of Huntington, WV; nephews Davy Peyton of Lawrenceville, GA and Kent Peyton of Grass Valley, CA; niece Nikki (Peyton) Peterson and her husband John of Reno, NV; and grandchildren, Kelly (Peyton) Noll and husband Scott of Pittsburgh, PA; Kari (Peyton) Johnston and husband Michael of Pittsburgh, PA; Rebecca (Peyton) Henry and husband Kevin of Houston, TX, and great-grandson Austin Henry. Vernon volunteered for the United States Army at the age of 19 and served as a Medical Technician, 409, 26th Division, 104th Infantry. He was wounded in action on December 10, 1944, during the Rhineland Central European Campaign and spent a year in various hospitals in Europe and the United States. Decorations and Citations received were the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Bronze Battle Stars (two), Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and Purple Heart. Vernon received a B.S. in Accounting from Marshall University, and spent his entire career working at Sears, Roebuck and Company, first in the Credit Department, followed by over 30 years in the Sales Department. He loved meeting people, loved to talk, and loved his family. Services will be conducted on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Ridgelawn Memorial Park Abbey of Remembrance, by Reverend Kevin Lantz.  Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, WV, is in charge of arrangements.
