Avonelle Powell
(September 15, 1934 - October 10, 2018)



Avonelle Powell, 84, of Huntington, passed away October 10, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born September 15, 1934, in Cabell County, WV, a daughter of the late Herman Adkins and Nettie Dillon Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Woodrow Adkins and infant granddaughter, Natalie Wooten. She was a member of Bloomingdale Salem Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Pastor Harrel Powell; her children, Jo Ann (Claude) Wooten, Mike (Kathi) Powell, Denise (Kenney) Reynolds, Kimberly (Jim) Sanders, and Amy (Sam) Preston; six sisters, Violette (Gerald) Murphy, Faye Foren, Patsy (Richard) Cherry, Betty (David) Arp, Norma (Roger) Wooten, and Thena Chatterton; special sister-in-law, Mayrine Adkins; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Buki) Grant, Andi (Craig) Morgan, Whitney (Nathan) Lewis, Stacie Waggoner, Ryan (Natalie) Reynolds, Adam (Lauren) Jones, Joshua (Gabby) Jones, and Zachary Preston; and eight great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Chris Fulks and Pastor Richard Childers. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.  The family would like to express a special thanks to C. Dwayne Tackett, MD (HIMG), St. Mary’s Medical Center, and a host of family and friends for their prayers and support.
