Henry Nathan Watkins
(May 5, 1928 - October 22, 2018)



Henry Nathan Watkins, 90, of Huntington, WV, loving husband of Bonnie Nickles Watkins passed away Monday, October 22, 2018, at the Woodlands Retirement Community. He was born May 5, 1928 in West Van Lear, Ky. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maragret Bates Watkins, his parents, Bert and Chloe Rice Watkins, his sister, Katherine Bates and his brother, Walter Watkins. Also survived by his children, Curtis Watkins (Lisa) of Versailles, Ky, Shawna Watkins Wallen (Chris) of Georgetown, Ky., and stepdaughter, Deborah Dunfee Beals (Donald) of Barboursville, WV; grandchildren, Christopher Watkins, Ashley Watkins, Nathan Wallen, Zackery Wallen, Chloe Wallen and step grandchildren, Robert Blake Beals (Katie) and Ryan Edward Beals (Tiffany). He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, graduated from Huntington East High School in 1946 and attended the University of Illinois and Marshall University where he received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degree. He served in the US Army during the Korean War era in Germany in the Army of Occupation as a Field Artillery Operations and Intelligence Specialist. He was employed by the Cabell County Board of Education for 37 years as elementary teacher-principal; supervisor of elementary education; supervisor of social studies K-12; supervisor of maintenance; director of buildings and grounds; substitute treasurer, interim superintendent, and assistant superintendent of facilities and new construction. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 1:30 pm, by Monsignor Dean Borgmeyer Visitation two hours prior to service at St. Joseph. Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
