Obituary


Sylvia Ruth Stewart Lafon, 83, of Huntington, WV, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. She was born August 13, 1932 in Lawrence County, KY a daughter of the late Sam S. and Madge Kitchen Stewart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. "Woody" "Doc" Lafon; a son, James Michael Lafon; and three sisters, Eva Lusher, Clara Martin, and Carolyn Nelson. Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Pama Kay and James Bernard Poindexter of Mt. Airy, MD; a son, James Gregory Lafon of Huntington; 5 grandchildren, David Michael (Amy) Poindexter, Jeremy Stewart (Rachel) Lafon, Carey Marie Lafon (T.J.) Slash, Johnna (Shawn) Poindexter, and Megan Poindexter (Scott) Stone; thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Chlora Evans of Huntington and Juanita Sexton of Columbus, OH; a brother, Gary Donald Stewart of Ashland, KY; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Samantha Hicks and Leigh Ann Adkins, for their loving care. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, May 27, 2016, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Dennis Morrello officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Visitation will be one hour before the service Friday at Chapman's Mortuary.
