Obituary


Estelle Carolyn Maynard, 81, of South Point, Ohio, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born July 8, 1934 in Ranger, West Virginia, a daughter of Mae Wiley Midkiff-Smith and Ellis Midkiff. She also had a loving second father, Wetzel Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Jarrett Maynard, her parents, three brothers Thomas Midkiff, Dale Midkiff, and Bobby Ray Smith. She is survived by her four children, James Maynard, Keith (Sara) Maynard, Nancy (Bill) Holland, and Naomi (David) Dixon. Eight grandchildren, Crystal Maynard, Joshua (Rachel) Maynard, Carter and Rachel Maynard, Morgan and Ryan Frye, and Emily and Nicholas Dixon. Four great-grandchildren Bryce Stephens, Abigail Bloomfield, Willow and Jarrett Maynard. Four sisters, Fern Manns of Suffolk, VA, Bonnie Damron and Betty Jo Tarbet (Donald) of Richmond, VA, Gloria Bell (David) of Hamlin, WV; two brothers Stanley Midkiff of Fife Lake, Michigan; and Cliff Smith (Chryl) of Ranger, WV. She also is survived by her best friend, Nancy Hampton; a dear family friend who has helped her so much over the years, Steve Saunders; and her cousin, Frankie Queen, who had been a companion to her over the past year. Estelle worked many years as a professional seamstress in Huntington. She and her husband also owned Maynard's Thriftway Market on Sixteenth Street Road. She was a faithful member of Huntington First Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also served on the Hospitality Committee helping to provide meals to many friends and family. Funeral services will be conducted at10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Huntington First Church of the Nazarene, 321 Third Ave., Huntington, WV, with Dallas Moore officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington following the service. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Chapman's Mortuary.
