Gene W. Black
(October 31, 1937 - April 12, 2010)



Gene W. Black, 72, of Huntington, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Chapman's Mortuary Huntington, with Rev. Caudle Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park. He was born October 31, 1937 in Cabell County, a son of the late Ira Giles and Mary Kathern Mohr Black. His first wife Minnie Black, one sister, Virginia Black Dilley (Frank), four brothers, Lloyd H. Black (Erma), Cecil H. Black (Ginger), Earl E. Black, Glenn Black, and a brother-in-law, Bill Peck also preceded him in death. He was a US Army veteran serving as a radar specialist, a member of the Army Reserve, American Legion Post 16 of Huntington, VFW Post 9738, the D.A.V., and the NRA. Mr. Black was a railroad enthusiast having retired from CSX Transportation as a machinist with 30 years of service. He also enjoyed building many racecars for round track and drag racing. Survivors include: his wife Frances Joan Hodges Black; a sister, Martha Peck-Isaacs (Jim) of Huntington; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Bird Black of Barboursville, and several loving nieces and nephews. Friends may call from noon to service time Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the charity of ones choice.
